The following is a list of recommended supplies to start:

Brushes:
Synthetic, Natural hair or mixed (Sable, Squirrel and synthetic)
Washes:
2” for washes (Hake, inexpensive)
Flats:
1” Flat
1/2" or 3/4" Flat
Rounds:
#8 and #12 Round
Rigger:
#1 or #2 - sable

Watercolor Tool Set: (Daniel Smith art store offers an excellent set)
Scrubbie Brush #2 or Hog Bristle Bright
Bamboo Pen
Elephant Ear sponge or natural sponge

Paper:
1-2 sheets, full size of ARCHES CP 140lb natural white
(Daniel Smith may have a 5 pack of the full sheets, up to you if you want to buy that much right now)
1 Block of paper, Arches preferred, Fabriano is ok too –
7x10 or 9x12 – or something med. small
Make sure blocked (not spiral) and CP and 140lb

Supports and Extras:
Pencils: one Charcoal and a 2B, and a kneaded eraser
Gator Board 16 x 24 inches
2 Bull Dog Clips
Artist's Tape or masking tape
1 sketch pad, I like the Aquabee Super Deluxe Sketch Book, burgundy color, it can take watercolor ( any size )

Recommended Basic Color Set:
Hansa Yellow or Cadmium Yellow, Aureolin Yellow, Indian Yellow or New Gamboge, Quinacridone Red or Winsor Red, Alizarin Crimson,
Cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine, Cerulean Blue, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna
Additional Recommendation (great deal for extra colors)
The Suzie Short Essential set (from Daniel Smith):
Has Hansa Yellow Med; Quin Rose; French Ultra; New Gamboge; Pyrrol Orange; Phthalo Blue (GS); Quin Burnt Orange
